(John’s Gospel 20:27)
Thomas was absent when Jesus revealed Himself for the first time after His resurrection to the disciples. When these disciples met Thomas later, he refused to believe in their claims that Jesus had risen from the dead. The Old Testament scriptures, the words of Jesus and the eye witness of his colleagues were just not enough to make him believe. Despite the evidence, Thomas wanted solid physical proof before he could believe. Later, Jesus would reveal Himself to Thomas but rebuke him for his unbelief.
Despite the obvious evidence of a Creator that is perceived in the orderly complexity of creation, despite numerous prophecies fulfilled in scripture and more than five hundred attested eyewitness accounts of the resurrected Jesus, there are many who still find it hard to put their faith in Him.
It is hard because to confess Jesus as God is to affirm one’s accountability to Him and the willingness to surrender to His will. But to do so is to experience freedom, joy, peace and lasting security.
So stop doubting and believe.
