“…FOR HE HATH SAID, I WILL NEVER LEAVE THEE, NOR FORSAKE THEE” (HEBREWS 13:5)

What power and strength we gain from these words “He hath said” The man and woman who have faith in the words of The Lord can walk daily with the utmost confidence! What doubts should we have when we have this most wonderful promise? Surely, the distresses of life, the trials and temptations, the fears that enter our hearts, surely they should all seem like light afflictions when we have this wonderful resource of “I will never leave you, nor forsake you”
Whether it be for pleasure in our quiet times with The Lord, or for strength in the hour of conflict, “He hath said” should ever be our daily resort.
So, dear friends, four sweet confirmations from this most precious promise that I would like to highlight:

Number 1 – The Lord will not and cannot leave His people, because of His relationship to us. He is our Father, will your father leave you? No! Christ is our husband. Would we men neglect our wives who we deeply love? No! We are part of His body, and no man neglects his own flesh! Yes, He is our Father, husband, our Head, our All in All, and will never leave us.

Number 2 – The Lord’s honour binds Him to never forsake us. Sometimes we see a house or a building that is half built and then it just stays that way, and we might comment “that man started to build but was unable to finish”. But it can never be said of God that he began to save us and could not bring us to perfection.  A verse from an old hymn says; “His honour is engaged to save the meanest of His sheep: All that His Heavenly Father gave, His hands securely keep”.
And did Christ not say “I give unto my sheep eternal life, they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand”. We have full assurance that The Lord is absolutely committed to His sheep forever!

Number 3 – I’m sure we all agree – Our past experiences prove His great faithfulness. How many times in our lives have we been in deep waters. Have we  ever drowned? How many times have we gone through a fiery trial in our lives? Have we ever been burned? When we suffered great and sore troubles, has He not brought us through them all? When we have slipped and fallen, or been down on our knees with problems, did He not stretch forth His hand and gently lift us back up? When has The Lord not been our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble? He is ever faithful, and our past (and present) is vocal with a thousand songs of gratitude, because The Lord will not forsake his people!

Number 4 – There is no reason WHY The Lord should cast us away. Now maybe sometimes we can doubt ourselves in our weakness and failings. Perhaps we may dwell too much upon past sin and feel that He can’t really love you, but that IS NO reason because we know that The Lord already loved us and gave His life for us when we were still dead in trespasses and sin! There’s nothing worse than sin, but we are His goodly pearl, his gems, we are now clothed in His righteousness and He shall never ever cast us away. The Apostle reminds us “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”. Yes, The Lord and His people are inseparable! Another old hymn puts it like this “Thou, Lord, wilt carry on, And perfectly perform The work thou hast begun in me a sinful worm: ‘Midst all my fear, and sin, and woe, Thy spirit will not let me go”!
What an absolute certainty we have when we hold this truth dear to our hearts “He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee”!

And in closing dear friends, here is further encouragement, this of course is but one “He hath said”. Whatever fresh concern or problem that may enter into our lives, there are many many other “He has said”, and as we search the scriptures there will be a specific “He hath said” that will just fit the case and bring assurance and joy to a troubled heart.

“He hath said” is the foundation of all riches, and the fountain of all comfort!
What daily comfort and confidence we are blessed with having this Book to dwell on!
